Attended Bulmer Primary School, where Steven had an illustration accepted in the 1970 Sunday Mirror Childrens Art Exhibition and hung in the Royal Academy of Art, London. From 1975 to 1979 studied at Colchester Art School in Graphic Design.

1979 to 1983 worked at Cartwright Design Associates, Newport, Saffron Walden, working mainly on food packaging design for Marks & Spencer’s, UB Foods and occasional exhibition design.
1983 to 1988 Freelance Graphic Design, Sign and illustration work. Pub sign Artist for Greene King Free Trade.
1988 to 1991 Graphic Design Artist for Rodney Day Associates Advertising – Sudbury / DCN Advertising – Bury St Edmunds.

1991 to present day- Started “S B Prints” self publishing Steven’s paintings as Fine art Prints – www.stevenbinks.co.uk

Continued to work with Greene King as their Free Trade Pub sign Artist. Worked with LAH signs on various sign projects, including sign work for the last series of “Lovejoy”. Has continued with other sign work since, including a business making Railway Signs www.railwaytotems.co.uk

Designed and Patented a new type of Scarecrow, which has been sold around the UK. Customers include the Duchy of Cornwall and Sandringham Estate.  www.scarecrow-vanes.co.uk

Now mainly involved in illustration, Steven won “Visions of Sudbury” in 2011 and holds the record for the largest and most expensive painting sold at “Visions of Sudbury”, the painting of “Seeing Jessie Home” painted in 2015. Has been a guest on BBC Radio Suffolk with Leslie Dolphin, Mark Murphy and Etholle George and appeared with Victoria Lampard on Anglia TV.
