There are several sites of antiquity highlighted on this Suffolk Map, Dunwich is recognised as the ancient capital of East Anglia and the hoard at Sutton Hoo is also celebrated. The current county town of Ipswich is marked by Thomas Wolsely who was born there in 1473. The famous Suffolk Punch horse is pictured towards the head of the Map alongside the Suffolk Down sheep. A controversial saying, which could equally apply to neighbours from Norfolk, is writ large: “Cats look down at us, dogs look up to us, pigs is our equals”

Poster-sized and litho printed on quality card in numbered limited editions. Designed for framing and to stimulate conversation, JL Carr created the Maps as a way to present an optimistic set of testimonials to our indigenous, daring and buoyant forbears and to hearten those Englishmen who hope for a rekindling of the spirit which has enlivened our nation through its chequered history. These architectural, historical, literary and pictorial curiosities are not to be used for navigation; except in the broadest of terms.
